How (and why) it all got started…
Hey, Colin Smith here…
I started CPAExamMaven back in 2018 as a platform to share what I had learned in my early accounting career. Since then, this site has grown into a go-to resource for young professionals looking for honest career advice and unbiased reviews of various exam prep courses.
You’ll find blog posts written by myself other skilled professionals. We’re accountants, consultants, business advisors and lawyers by trade, not slick marketers just trying to make a buck. The views we express on this site are 100% ours and not influenced by shady agendas.
Here are a few quick facts about me:
- I have 14+ years of experience working as a CPA, consultant and business advisor.
- I’ve spent most my career at two different Big-4 accounting firms. However, I also spent several years at a smaller regional firm and currently work a freelance consultant.
- I passed the Uniform CPA exam in 2010 and added the Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) credential in 2014.
- After specializing in audit and tax work early in my career, I shifted to accounting advisory work, specializing in new accounting standards, M&A and IPO work, and valuation work.
- I hold dual citizenship with the U.S. and Italy (ask me how!)
- I can eat tacos every day of the week
- I love music and I’ve had an on-again, off-again relationship with the guitar since I was 15
